ICN Conference Concludes in Porto

The ICN conference ended in Porto, Portugal on 12th May 2017 with a call for strengthened  cooperation among the competition agencies and jurisdictions. Speaking at the closing ceremony, the President of the ICN Steering Group, Mr. Andreas Mundt, said the ICN  requires engagement and passion which can be tough but rewarding.

He said the Steering Group has taken a strategic decision to involve younger agencies in the ICN, and also promote diversity. To that end, the Singapore Competition Commission has been nominated to become a member of the Steering Group. Other members include Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, South Africa, the UK and the United States.

Mundt cautioned that cases of unilateral conduct will become a challenge for agencies in the digital age.

For her part, the President of the Portuguese Competition Authority, Ms. Margarida Matos Rosa, thanked all competition authorities and non-government agencies for coming to Portugal and attending the conference.

The next host of the next ICN conference was also announced at the closing ceremony. The 2018 ICN conference will be held in Delhi, India on March 20th to 23rd.
