Competition Authority and the Botswana Unified Revenue Service to Sign MoU

The Competition Authority and the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) will on 28th June 2017 sign a memorandum of understanding, (MoU). The two institutions which pursue different mandates saw the need to cooperate in order to efficiently execute their respective mandates.

BURS has been established to, among others, undertake tax assessments and collection on behalf of the Government of Botswana and to take appropriate measures to counteract tax evasion and to ensure high levels of taxpayer compliance. The Competition Authority on the other hand has been set-up to prevent and redress anti-competitive practices in the economy, and to remove constraints on the free play of competition in the Botswana market.

During the MoU signing, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the CA and the Commissioner General of BURS would explain the areas of cooperation and how these would enhance their operations and serve businesses, the public and the economy better.

At the end of the statements, members of the press would have an occasion to engage with the two CEOs. The Press Conference will take place on Wednesday 28th June at the Competition Authority’s Board Room at 11:00 hours.
